About this opportunity

The Liu Shiming Artist Grants are annual awards established by the Liu Shiming Art Foundation to support emerging visual artists during the first decade of their careers. The grants are intended to help artists create or complete new projects that engage with the relationship between traditional, cultural, or historical influences and contemporary artistic practices. The Foundation aims to encourage multicultural dialogue and foster artistic innovation inspired by the legacy of renowned Chinese sculptor Liu Shiming. Each year, up to five artists are selected by a panel of curators, artists, and art professionals

Requirements

Career Stage Requirement Have been working professionally for: - At least 2 years, and - No more than 10 years. Educational or Exhibition Requirement Applicants must have either: Option 1 Received a degree in studio arts between 2016 and 2024; OR Option 2 Had their debut gallery exhibition or juried art exhibition between 2016 and 2026. Language Requirement - All application materials must be submitted in English. Required Application Materials Applicants are typically required to submit: 1. Online application form. 2. Artist statement. 3. Project proposal. 4. Portfolio of artwork. 5. Curriculum Vitae (CV). 6. Supporting documents in English. Selection Criteria Applications are evaluated based on: - Artistic merit. - Originality. - Feasibility of the proposed project. - Relevance to cultural, historical, or traditional themes. - Potential impact on the artist's development. Awardees are selected by a panel consisting of: - The Foundation's Curatorial Director. - Established artists. - Curators. - Art historians. - Gallery and auction-house professionals.
