About this opportunity

The IDFA Bertha Fund (IBF) is a funding program of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) dedicated to strengthening independent, author-driven documentary filmmaking in regions where access to film financing and distribution is limited. Established in 1998, the fund supports emerging and established filmmakers creating bold, artistic, and socially relevant documentaries.

Requirements

✅ Independent Documentary Project Applicants must be developing: Feature-length documentaries. Creative and author-driven documentary films. Projects with strong artistic vision and international relevance. ✅ Director Requirements For IBF Classic: The director must hold the nationality of an eligible country. The director must currently live and work in that country. ✅ Producer Requirements For Production & Post-production grants: A producer is recommended but not mandatory. If attached, the producer should also be based in an eligible country. ✅ Strong Artistic Vision Projects should demonstrate: Original storytelling. Innovative visual treatment. Clear directorial voice. Potential to reach local and international audiences. ✅ International Co-Productions (IBF Europe) Certain categories require: Collaboration with a European producer. A global distribution strategy. Documentary projects of approximately 60 minutes or longer
