Yaa Asantewaa Art Prize 2026

The Yaa Asantewaa Art Prize 2026 is the sixth edition of Gallery 1957's flagship prize dedicated to supporting women artists. Named after the legendary Ghanaian Queen Mother Yaa Asantewaa, the prize celebrates artistic excellence and female leadership. For the first time, the prize expands beyond Ghana to Senegal through a partnership with the Institut Français du Sénégal. Two winners—one Ghanaian and one Senegalese artist—will participate in a unique cultural exchange residency between the two countries. The initiative aims to develop into a leading platform for female African artists.

Gender Requirement - Identify as women. Age Requirement - Be at least 18 years old. Citizenship Requirement - Be Ghanaian or Senegalese. Residency Requirement - Reside either in their home country or within its diaspora. Documentation - Provide valid proof of citizenship or residency. Required Application Materials Applicants must submit: 1. Artist Bio and Statement Maximum 200 words describing: - Who you are. - Where you come from. - Where you live. - Educational background (formal or informal). - Your artistic journey. 2. Portfolio Up to six high-resolution: - Images. - Videos. - Media links. Each work should include: - Title. - Date. - Medium. - Dimensions. 3. File Format All materials must be combined and submitted in PDF format. Selection Criteria Applications are assessed based on: - Artistic quality. - Originality. - Conceptual depth. - Technical execution. - Potential for artistic growth. - Contribution to contemporary African art.
