Tarbell Grants

Tarbell Grants is a global journalism funding initiative established by the Tarbell Center for AI Journalism to support original, high-impact reporting on artificial intelligence and its effects on society. The program provides grants to experienced journalists and media creators to pursue investigative, analytical, and explanatory stories that help the public understand AI and hold powerful institutions accountable. Tarbell primarily supports written journalism, though exceptional proposals in formats such as podcasts, newsletters, and documentaries may also be considered. Editorial independence is fully protected, and donors have no influence over reporting decisions.

Applications are evaluated based on: Potential impact of the story. Reach and audience size. Journalistic quality and experience. Feasibility of completing the project. Strength and originality of the proposal. Application Process Develop an original AI-related reporting proposal. Prepare supporting materials and portfolio. Obtain a letter of interest from an editor if possible (not mandatory initially). Complete the online application form. Submit before 12 July 2026.
